About

About Metropolitan Framing

A picture framing and design service, proudly Western Australian owned and operated, in the heart of the Swan Valley at Ellenbrook.

Our story

Metropolitan Framing is a local, family owned and operated business. Our friendly and experienced team helps you choose materials and design a piece that suits both your style and your budget. We can frame almost everything except the kitchen sink, from your grandfather's war medals to your child's first drawing or a cherished photograph.

We are located at Ellenbrook within the picturesque Swan Valley, and we look after happy clients all over the Perth metropolitan area, from Joondalup and Wanneroo to Midland, Subiaco and Hillarys.

What we value

We believe in high-quality craftsmanship and a genuine design service, where we take the time to talk through options and ideas. Preservation framing, reversible mounting, glazing choices, hinging techniques, frame design: this is what we know, and it is what protects your work. You are dealing with a professional, experienced custom framing team that treats your piece with the respect it deserves. We put real value on ongoing education, training and staying connected with our industry.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. We frame them for a lot less.

Our workshop

Framed start to finish, in-house

We frame your item from start to finish in our own fully equipped workshop. Occasionally a piece needs a specialty service off-site, such as dry-cleaning, pressing or conservation, and when it does we manage the whole process for you. We have invested heavily in professional-grade equipment, including:

  • Gunnar AiOX Hybrid XL computerised mat cutter
  • Inmes IM300PL pneumatic double mitre saw and Framers Choice chopper
  • Cassese CS-200 and Inmes IM5P pneumatic underpinners
  • Fletcher 3100 multi-material wall cutter
  • Vacuum press and hot roll laminator
  • Heat presses, guillotines, FilletMaster, canvas-stretching devices, pneumatic staplers and pinners
  • Colour-calibrated Mac and PC systems, printers and scanners

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.

There is never any question about where I would take anything I need framed. Mike is clearly passionate about framing and it shows through his work.

I have had many framers over the years but this one is the best. They earn their five stars easily by competitive pricing with great service and attitude.

Hands down the best framer. Outstanding customer service and very quick turnout time. Frame completes my print.

Took a cross stitch I had done 13 years ago that I thought was ruined with age stains and acid marks from being incorrectly framed. Mike reframed it and it's now stunning and beautiful again.

Finally a business that doesn't make you feel like they're doing you a favour. Reasonably priced, friendly and reliable workmanship.

I drive from Joondalup to Ellenbrook because they are the best.

Common questions

Common questions

How much does framing cost?

Framing prices are based on size, materials and design, not on what your artwork cost. A $25 poster and a $5,000 painting can take the same care. We offer everything from elaborate designs to cost-effective options, plus ready-made frames made in house for value framing.

How long does it take?

Generally about 10 days to 2 weeks. We are flexible and can often accommodate shorter deadlines, and some specialist jobs take longer if we are sourcing materials. The sooner you contact us, the more likely we can hit a gift deadline.

Where is the work done?

In-house, from start to finish, in our Ellenbrook workshop.

Can you cut mats without a frame?

Yes. Single mounts or production runs, complex multiple openings and stacked mats on our computerised cutter.

Do you frame mirrors?

Yes, custom-made mirrors that open up and brighten a room.

Do you do commercial framing?

Yes, certificates, awards, licences, photos and promotional material, including production quantities.

Do you sell supplies?

Yes, an extensive online shop of the same quality items we use in-house, plus encaustic art supplies.
